Essential Oil Status Report

Cinnamon Leaf Oil, There have been recent floods and landslides in Sri Lanka which have impacted on the planting areas.

Clove Leaf Oil, with the global clove prices having risen sharply over the last few weeks in the spice markets, due to the increased demand and fears of a significantly reduced crop in Indonesia. Also the current situation, with the province of Aceh Indonesia complicates matters further.

Sandalwood oil East Indian has become extremely short, reports from India indicate that there may be only 3 years supply remaining before all the trees have been destroyed. As the oil is usually produced from trees that are over twenty years old, it appears that there may be a significant problem around the corner.

Orange Oil Sweet, the Brazilian 2003/04 crop will unfortunately be late and short. It is estimated that reduction in crop numbers from last year is between 10-25%. The predicted number of Orange Boxes produced for this crop could be between 275-310 million.  The Florida crop which is due in late 2003/04, appears to be quite large, although no numbers have yet been estimated. Due to the favourable weather & soil settings in March, this has resulted in excellent tree conditions. Florida is also experiencing at present, the summer afternoon rain patterns that are beneficial for a healthy crop.

Patchouli Oil: The demand for the Indonesian Oil is very high, especially for the light coloured oil.

Coriander Seed Oil, the adverse weather conditions in Russia will have an impact later this year with reports of crops being delayed by a month. Yields are expected to be down.

Geranium Oil, the new Egyptian crop is expected to be good.

Aniseed Oil, the recent crop in China was very good.
