There are over 700 different species of Eucalyptus, with about 500 of which are able to produce an essential oil. Some reports state that only fifteen species occur outside Australia, with just nine of these not occurring in Australia. Though with only a few that produce essential oils - these oils are universally well known for their medicinal or perfumery applications. Of each Eucalypt, the quantity and quality of essential oil produced varies greatly, due to a different chemical fingerprint with variations in the constituents within the oil. This and most Eucalyptus oil contains cineole which is a common constituent for the medicinal, therapeutic or pharmaceutical application.

Australian grown in the wild, the harvested leaves and terminal branches are steam distilled to produce the essential oil.

Eucalyptus Australiana (Eucalyptus radiata ssp. radiata) is one of the most gentle and sweetest smelling cineole type of Eucalypt. This is the most popular Eucalyptus oil for Aromatherapy applications. It is well known for its expectorant, antibacterial, antiviral properties and is regarded the best Eucalypt for viral or bacterial infections with immunostimulating properties. It is a stimulating and positive oil on the emotions, helping you to get up and go! In skin care Eucalyptus radiata is recommended for conditions where cleansing and anti-inflammatory properties are required, such as with acne (the antiseptic properties of this oil are also beneficial here), minor burns, blisters, cuts, skin infections and wounds without being too harsh on the skin. Eases muscle and joint aches and pains, poor circulation, and rheumatoid arthritis. Helps to boost the immune system, eases headaches, and helps clear common respiratory complaints and minor infections, along with coughs, congestion and other mildly related colds and flu related symptoms. May also aid in repelling insects.
