Marjoram Spanish Essential Oil
(Thymus mastischina)
  • Product Code: EOMARS

Marjoram Spanish is not a true marjoram, but a species of wild thyme. Gathered and distilled in Spain, but also found in Morocco and Portugal. Other names it is known by, are Wild Spanish Marjoram, and Mastic Thyme. Please always refer to the Botanical Name for the required specifications, as the Common Name can be rather confusing.

With 35-350 various Thyme varieties that have spread across the Europe from the Mediterranean to North Eastern China. The chemical components are different to that of the Sweet Marjoram (Origanum majorana) or Wild Thyme (Thymus serpyllum), Spanish wild Marjoram Oil has little application in the perfumery industry, as it's effects do not offer any particular value and desire to recommend it to the perfumer.

The essential oil from the steam distilled leaves contains a high cineole content, which gives it an aroma similar to eucalyptus. However it does have similar therapeutic properties to Marjoram Majorana.

This oil has an affinity with the respiratory tract infections and related spasms, also aids the digestive system.  It has been typically used on sore, tired aching muscles. It can also be used as a relaxant or sedative. It is said to calm the nerves, and fight loneliness and rejection, as it has applications for comforting, warming, restoring and soothing.
